Fashion East: Man AW10

This year saw Katie Eary open the MAN show with a collection inspired by Irvine Welsh’s “Marabou Stork Nightmares”. The collection saw a variety of textures running throughout the collection including furs; wools; photographic technicolour and hallucinatory prints of intertwining and winding green snakes; vibrant purple velvet devore tiger print and orange and lime green mock-croc shirts. I loved all the metallic, reflective neon trousers and matching trainers, as well as the chunky knits, well i loved it all to be honest. I want it all...!
Cult menswear duo Jaiden rVa James followed with a collection that took inspiration from Mad Max films and Tom of Finland books. Think Hell raiser meets Kiss (the band) at Torture Gardens. Model after model charged down the runway in head to toe leather; from leather balaclava with ball gags to a more wearable leather shirt, tie and trousers(!) to over the knee high heeled wedges, possibly signaling a nod towards womenswear for the design duo? Or quite simply just reiterating their signature of pushing sexual taboos and boundaries in fashion. Either way this was possibly a highlight of the day in terms of sheer entertainment and fun, so out there, but still so wearable. I heart the shearling coat, leather strapped trousers and all the wedge heels, i want now!
The final collection of the MAN show was another debuting designer to the show New Power Studio. This collection titled “Drunken Monkey” seeks to embrace and harness the mad-but-good energy of London’s people and its music. Think glad rags for rude boys... The collection saw more casual street wear pieces with sweatshirts sporting leather insert on shoulder, double hemmed sports wear jackets and a mixture of textures in one particular tracksuit of velvet, fleece and cotton jersey. A few surreal and note worthy elements came down the runway including a pair of children one with a drum for a head and the other with a white golf ball for a hand and an OAP on a scooter...

Acne Paper Party Pics

Now i am not one to post party pics on this blog, but this was a party worth noting about. It happened on Friday at the Spitalfield Church in my manor, East London. Vodka was flowing and everyone who was anyone was there. It was too much fun, a great party to catch up with all the people you work with on a daily basis and don't get to see often enough.
The theme of the new issue of Acne Paper was enlightenment, spirituality, transcendence and paradise. "As human beings we sense there is more going on than meets the eye... We are reminded about these energies when entering holy places created by great craftsmen and artist... Even the most sceptical atheist, when gazing at the icons, painting and sculptures, feel that there is something godlike about it." A very fitting comment for the grand location.

The cover story (above) this issue is a collaboration between Tilda Swinton and Paolo Roversi, plus i got a lovely Acne canvas bag (below), with Swarovski crystals to add to my ever growing collection of Acne. I love it!

Sneak Peek at Katie Eary SS10 collection

So i popped over to see the lovely Katie Eary for a long overdue visit to her studio/home, and with less than a week to go to the menswear day, as you can imagine stress levels were high. I was lucky enough to peek at the upcoming SS10 collection, but you will have to wait till Wednesday 23rd September for coverage of the MAN day to see the full collection. But i do have something to tease your taste buds...

I love the men too..

In my last post i went on and on about the brilliant womenswear shows on during fashion week and fair-do's it was. What i forgot to do was to equally go on and on about the fantastic menswear shows. Now this is no new news in the fashion world but i think they deserved a good mention. The shows were fantastic and for the first dedicated day to men's fashion at London fashion week, i think London has a lot to be proud about- I certainly am.
Lou Dalton show- The first show of the day, was a brilliant production. A small show held at Kettners in Soho, an old haunt favourite to the late and great Oscar Wild. We were sat on small round tables and fed the finest brownies, cheesecakes and sponges, teas and coffee's. A brilliant day to start the day if you ask me. If you look closely at the 2 photos, you can see me concentrating on the fine details of the clothed on the models, not the models bums! ha! I later went on to interview Lou, She was so lovely...

JW Anderson show- This was brilliant and by far the best show during the Man show at 4pm. It was all so new and exciting, Jonathan tried some new things with knitwear, and fabrics which i think worked oh so well. Including a floorlength full skirt- which somehow i must say looked pleasing to the eye. His jewellery was brilliant as usual, and although some of the pieces as a girl i can not get away with wearing, i will be the first to make an order on the jewellery.Carolyn Massey show- Possibly my favourite of the day and most anticipated show of the menswear day. At BUCK magazine, we work closely with Carolyn and have come to create a good friendship with her. And this show was not to disappoint. I dont know where to begin with all the things i love... the (pictured) PVC cape, the blue bib-fronted shirt, the interesting lapels on the blazers.....oh oh oh! In the words of Beyonce....."if i were a boy...."


Now i must not also mention a friend of mine Katie Eary who also showed a presentation as well. The collection was based on the George Orwell novel 'Animal Farm'. I have always loved Katie's collections from her graduating collection at RCA. Grabbing her inspiration from literature instead of physical imagery i think gives her some advantage to where her imagination can take her and her designs, and i am sure you agree with me, they are quite fantastical!

The excitement of it all, thinking back to it was great! I look forward to see what else London will have up its sleeves in the seasons to come- maybe we can rival Milan and Paris in the menswear shows!
